Wills & Estate Planning in Burnaby, Vancouver & New Westminster

Estate planning is about more than creating a Will. A complete personal plan addresses both what happens after death and how your affairs are managed during your lifetime — including who makes decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated. Edmonds Notary can help you put together a plan that includes a Will, Power of Attorney, and Representation Agreement — tailored to your circumstances, whether you have a straightforward situation or more complex needs.

Last Will and Testament

Having a Will means peace of mind — for you and for the people you love. As a highly educated legal advisor, Eli can help you make plans to ensure your children, family members, and assets are looked after according to your wishes. Without a Will, the division of your estate and important decisions about any dependent children could fall to the courts. A properly drafted Will provides clear direction so your estate is settled exactly as you intended.

Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to authorize another person to act on your behalf for your legal and financial affairs. You may assign it temporarily — for example, while you are travelling — or in advance in the event you become incapable of managing your own affairs. An Enduring Power of Attorney remains in effect even if you lose mental capacity. Edmonds Notary can help you decide who to appoint and what powers to give them.

Healthcare Representation Agreement

A Health Representation Agreement allows you to choose someone you trust to make healthcare and personal care decisions for you, should you become incapable of speaking for yourself. You can also assign a representative to support your healthcare decisions even if you are currently capable of making them on your own. Edmonds Notary can help you create a Representation Agreement that ensures you receive healthcare aligned with your wishes, values, and beliefs.

  • Section 7 (Standard) — routine and minor health care decisions
  • Section 9 (Enhanced) — major health care decisions including consent or refusal of treatment

Advance Directive

An Advance Directive is a written statement of your health care wishes that guides medical professionals when you are unable to communicate your preferences directly.

Will Searches

If you need to locate an existing Will — for your own records or as part of settling an estate — Edmonds Notary can assist with a search through the BC Wills Registry.

Notarization Services — Burnaby, Vancouver, New Westminster & Lower Mainland

Some documents require authentication by a Notary Public to witness signatures, verify the identity of those signing, and confirm that all parties understand what they are agreeing to. You may also need a photocopied document notarized to certify it is a true copy of the original. Edmonds Notary can assist with a wide range of notarization needs — accurately, promptly, and at a convenient location.

Affidavits & Statutory Declarations

An affidavit is a written statement of facts sworn under oath before a Notary. A statutory declaration is a formal written statement confirmed by solemn declaration rather than oath. Both are widely used for legal proceedings, court filings, immigration applications, insurance claims, government submissions, name changes, and many other situations requiring a formal statement.

Certified True Copies

Many institutions — including government agencies, universities, foreign embassies, employers, and financial institutions — require certified copies of original documents such as passports, birth certificates, degrees, and marriage certificates. A Notary certifies that a copy is a true, accurate, and complete reproduction of the original document.

Healthcare, Insurance & Pension Declarations

Edmonds Notary can prepare and witness healthcare declarations, insurance loss declarations, and proof of life declarations. These are commonly required by pension plan administrators, insurance companies, benefits providers, and government agencies.

Authorization of Minor Child Travel

When a child travels outside Canada without one or both parents or legal guardians, Canadian border services and foreign authorities often require a notarized Travel Consent Letter. This document can prevent unexpected delays at borders and airports. Edmonds Notary can prepare and notarize these letters quickly — don't let missing paperwork disrupt your family's travel plans.

Letters of Invitation for Foreign Travel

If you are inviting a family member, friend, or business associate to visit Canada, a notarized Letter of Invitation or Sponsorship Letter can support their visa application to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada). Edmonds Notary can draft and notarize these letters.

Criminal Record Check Notarizations & Proof of Identity

Edmonds Notary can notarize identity documents and prepare declarations for criminal record check applications, employment, and travel-related identity requirements.

Authentication & Execution of International Documents

Documents intended for use in foreign countries often require authentication or apostille certification to be legally recognized abroad. Edmonds Notary is registered with the BC Authentications Program and with the US Consulate, and can guide you through the entire authentication process for documents required internationally.
